Cultivating Patience (…One Internet Glitch at a Time)

I'm having a moment with my internet connection.

Over the past week, I’ve spent hours on the phone—resetting, reconfiguring, troubleshooting—only to think it’s finally fixed, and then… ten minutes later… it’s gone to sh*t again. So I'm sitting here struggling to get this done. Things that normally take a few minutes are taking MUCH longer! The supposed solution? A new router, which I’m really hoping is on its way. Wait—was that a delivery van just now?! 😅

In the meantime, I’ve been practicing the art of cultivating patience. The alternative? Getting very annoyed and stressed and grumpy with the kind people who were trying to help me sort out the problem.

It's made me reflect; When we’re faced with things outside our control, our default is often to blame, deflect, or justify our frustration. But underneath that, what we’re really reacting to is an unmet expectation. We had a picture of how things were going to go—and when life doesn’t follow the script, we get… well, sh*tty.

But the tighter we cling to how things should be, the more suffering we create for ourselves.

Sometimes, things just don’t go to plan. And when they don’t, the best thing we can do is soften, breathe, and let go.Because, really, we’re always practicing—whether on the mat or off. What’s life inviting you to soften around right now? I’d love to hear.

I acknowledge the Wirradjuri people as the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands where I live, learn and work. I honour their elders past, present and emerging. I recognise their continued connection to the land and waters of this beautiful place, and acknowledge that they never ceded sovereignty.
